Day 17

Carrion – Terradillos

26.8 km / 16.6 miles

There is a new pep in my step today.  I feel free, alive and connected.  Amelie and I walk together again.  She has introduced me to some of her friends that she has met along her way.  Our group grows throughout the day.  A Dutch girl, a traveler from Ireland, a guy from Colorado and Malou.  I can feel the energy between us grow with excitement as we all walk together, it almost feels like the breakfast club on a holiday.  We stop many times along the way to rest, chat, eat and laugh.

We take our time walking today.  No hurry to get any where and just happy to be together.  We are like teenagers moving out of our parents house for the first time, free to do as we please.  All of us free spirits in our own way.  We flow like the ocean in whatever way it takes us, throwing banter at each other along the way.

We arrive to Terradillos at one of the only albergues in this town.  The albergue Jacques de Molay is full when we arrive.  The next albergue is another 3.2k away.  This may not seem like much, but after walking 16+ miles it feels unbearable to continue on.  The owner asks if we want to sleep on the kitchen floor; she has some extra floor pads for pilgrims in need.  We all graciously accept.  The thought of continuing on to possibly another full alberque is out of question.

The 3 boys from the day before roll in shortly after us.  There is no more room for them.  I feel for them.  They stay to have a drink on the patio with all of us before they continue on.

All in all it has been an adventurous day.  I made some deeper connections and look forward to the next couple days to come.
