If you haven’t already heard of Katie Dalebout and her Wellness Wonderland, it’s only a matter of time before one of her books will be sitting on your desk or you will have sat at one of her talks. Katie is a continuously growing and evolving spirit with the world on her side. She works harder and has more drive and motivation than anyone I have ever met. She is determined to share her wealth of love, kindness and support while the world guides and builds her up in return. Katie is an author, writer, yoga instructor, speaker, mentor, life coach, podcast host and an inspiration to thousands of followers of her Wellness Wonderland.
I see a little of myself in Katie, a fellow blogger and spirit junkie. I have the privilege of being a student in Katie’s yoga class at Red Lotus Yoga, in Rochester Hills, MI. I have experienced Katie’s ability to heal and transform the energy in a room by simply saying good morning. I knew Katie as my instructor and from following her online presence, but was interested in learning more about her story and journey. Being a yoga teacher and spirit junkie takes a certain type of person. Someone who has been through some sort of self transformation to want to share and give so much of themselves. Let me tell you one thing, we do not do it for the money.
Katie’s story begins during high school, at a time when so many of us struggle with identity and fitting in. Katie in particular struggled with her own self worth, directly correlating it with her body. The healthier and more strict she was with her diet, the more worthy she felt as a person. Katie measured her happiness from the amount of attention she received for her looks, driving her addiction to her physical body. Unaware of how unhealthy and dangerous Katie’s health had become, her obsession with her diet took a dark turn into an eating disorder. After reaching an ultimate low body weight, family and friends confronted her with the reality and danger of what she was doing to her body.
Wellness, journaling, blogging and yoga had always played a role throughout Katie’s life. It wasn’t until she hit her ultimate low body weight is when she realized that she not only needed to physically restore her health, but that she needed to mend her soul. Katie spent years unaware of her patterns and intentions behind the decisions she was making. It took suffering for her to find her own sense of self and to begin to heal her spirit of the many years of abuse, neglect and feeling unworthy. Katie turned to the tools that she knew to heal, not only her body, but more importantly her soul.
As Katie continues to move forward with her healing, she has found her passion for helping others to heal. Katie uses the practices that she has picked up through out her own journey to help guide and mentor others. She is currently writing a book telling her personal story to be published by Hay House in 2016. She continues to host pod casts featuring famous wellness experts such as Tara Stiles and Gabrielle Bernstein on The Wellness Wonderland Radio.
Katie will be the first to admit that she is not perfect and believes that she will always dance with her insecurities, but she is aware of when she is in that space and can choose to pivot her thoughts to stay in the light. Katie inspires me to become aware of when I am spending more time in the dark and that it is possible to live a happier life. Her constant reminders to “Wake Up” on her Instagram give me inspiration each day to bring awareness to what I am doing, the thoughts I am thinking and the motivation to keep moving forward. Just knowing that she is there, thinks and strives to be inspired just like I do, provides me the relief in knowing that I am not alone.
